It is reusable, steam sterilizable (autoclavable), and adapts to all standard hospital piping systems. The half-gallon (1200 ml) bottle is calibrated 200 ml to 1200 ml, for estimating purposes only.

The metal cap includes a hospital patient port to help prevent kinking of suction tubing, and a hose stem vacuum inlet. The float shuts off at approximately 850 ml.
